Comments: Just wanted to write and let you know what a great time I had at the best bass lake in the world! First of all, I can't say enough about the private/charter flight directly to the lodge. This is the only way to go...we were fishing by lunchtime on the same day we left Ft. Worth. I hope I never have to travel to the lodge any other way! As far as the lodge itself, it was beautiful, comfortable, and the staff catered to our every need. Narlin and the gang do such a good job and take such pride in showing off their beautiful corner of the world.
As far as the fishing...it was fantastic. I'm told the fishing was tough,
but I caught more trophies in 4.5 days of fishing on Baccarac than I have in
over 30 days at el salto. Three fish over 10 pounds (2 of them taken on BIG
crankbaits), and so many in the 7-9 lbs range I lost count. The amount of
fight in these bass was incredible. I have found a new bass playground, and
you guys have found a loyal customer.
Again, many thanks to Narlin for all the hard work, and I look forward to
many more great trips and wonderful memories to be made.

Comments: 05/08/2013 David and I had a great time at the lodge this past week. Although the fishing was a little slow we both still set new personal bests bass catches. Jason 10.3 and David 8 pounds. The guides, cooks, drivers, and other staff provided excellent service and accommodations. It's amazing how many big fish are here. We caught 35- 40 bass but most were over 5 lbs. Many fish had their way with our tackle as was predicted. We lost largemouth estimated in the 10-12 lb class. I'll find a way to come back again. This place was awesome!!!!
05/09/2013 Things are looking up as the May action is creeping into the picture. As always this time of year, through June and July, we have an explosion of big bass. The last couple days of reports from the lodge indicate the best fishing on the lake is coming in short order. Adam Bulleigh, fishing with Sixto, had a big bass of 12.9 pounds. John Lard reporting 19 largemouth over six pounds yesterday afternoon. Shad Goldston caught a couple fish over 9 and one over 10. Manuel put his clients on a 13 pound bass and a dozen over 8 lbs. Juan and his client had seven largemouth bass over 7 and four over 9. If May is starting out like this, June will be fantastic on Lake Baccarac! We hope to see you down here.

seven largemouth over nine pounds. Mitch Blackburn caught his personal best
on his first cast and continues catching trophy bass again four more times
with a monster Baccarac bass of 13.14 pounds.
Ken Garrett caught 71 bass the last 2 days using only deep diving crankbaits
with his big bass coming in at 11.12 pounds. Ken's partner, using plastics
only, lands 11 fish the last 2 days......it is crank bait time!

Comments: Bill Benson and Jack Mocnik had a very successful week on Lake Baccarac, catching the majority of their bass on trick worms, Senkos and Strike King deep-diving crank baits, with 10 to 12 lb. largemouth bass caught every day on the water, the only exception being Friday, April 5th. Fishing continues to improve with catches of 30 to 60 fish per boat per day. Steve Anderson caught 50 black bass today, with half of them in the 3 – 5 pound range and the other half in the 6 – 13 pound range. He used mainly deep-diving crank baits and some swim baits.

Comments: Report from Curt Green fishing at Lake Baccarac Lodge - We had a good time and Dan & I caught some great bass between nine and 12 pounds. Dan caught the 11 & 12. We caught a good number of 7, 8 and 9 pound black bass!!! Thinking about a June trip
Report from Ryan Jones - Bass fishing was awesome for my dad and I. A lot of 7's. and a few 8 pounders as well as one 9.3 pound largemouth bass. I killed them on wacky senkos 6 inch - Root beer / red flake pattern.

Comments: Dwight Hottle and I just returned from Mexico and a week of bass fishing that will be very hard to forget. With the Lake Baccarac Lodge as our hosts, we were treated to some great food, comfy accommodations, breath taking scenery and of course unmatched Big Bass fishing. After reviewing previous Lake Baccarac fishing reports and seeing the many photos of truly trophy bass, I was hoping for a trip that included memories and catches of a life time. My personal expectations for the trip could best be described as sky high and wildly optimistic. I’m happy to report that this placed delivered. The travel to this first class lodge is an adventure in itself. Surrounded by picturesque and majestic mountains we were provided with and had as our fishing back drop, post card type views that just added even more to the experience.
To call Lake Baccarac a world class fishery might be an understatement. The geographic local, lake management and minimal fishing pressure combine for a bass fishing experience that’s hard to duplicate. But bass are bass regardless of their size or numbers and during our week of fishing we found that the bass were in a transitional stage. With some fish holding deep and some fish moving shallow, we were challenged to establish any one pattern that would hold for more than a day or two. We took bass on top water, jerk baits, plastics and spinner baits to name a few and in every level of the water column. One bait that I had not fished before this week but proved to be very effective, especially on big fish, was The Scrounger. 3/8, ½ and ¾ ounce size with a mag fluke or 7 inch sluggo trailer caught most of our bass between 5 – 9 lbs and is very versatile. I’d encourage you to give it a try in your home waters. Although there were several amazing catches made, this was not a week of suicidal bass fishing were everything and anything produced fish. Each morning and afternoon’s fishing demanded the best efforts of both our guides and us.
And speaking of guides, the two we had were the best and we were lucky to have them. Lake Baccarac is a vast fishery, and in an age where gps and high tech navigational/positioning is all the rage to assist the angler in the quest to locate bass, you will find none of that here. Using just the simplest of sonars and their intimate knowledge and experience of the lake, Manuel and “Geno” took us to spot after big bass spot. It was impressive to say the least. And so what did we catch? Well, there were no 100 or 200 fish days. In fact, I don’t think we even had a 100 fish day between the three of us. Like I mentioned the fishing was a bit off. But we did have several of the big bites and bags that this body of water is so famous for. Additionally, it doesn’t take long to get a very tainted view of what a “picture” fish is. Here, a 5 & 6 pound bass although nice in quite common place, this size fish gets a quick eyeball and is then released rather unceremoniously; 7’s & 8’s get honorable mention, a photo and usually get weighted; 8’s & 9’s are said to be the best fighters and you won’t get any argument for us. 10’s and higher are called “Grande” by the guides and are what everyone is looking for. We saw 3 this trip and 1 came from 18 inches of water right on the bank. This makes you really focus and hope you stick every single fish that hits as any single cast – could be the one. So you can see how an angler can quickly adopt a very tainted and distorted view of what an “average” bass is. I may never be the same.
So here are the numbers: Best five fish bags, Jeff ~ 42 lbs 7 ounces Dwight ~ 45 lbs 2 ounces A-Jay ~ 45 lbs 10 ounces Best single day 5 fish bag of the trip: Dwight got on a deep bite - 43 lbs This incredible bag included three fish over 9 lbs , one over 8lb and a 7 lb “dink” As for PB’s- as this was Jeff’s second trip to the Lake, his PB was already a lofty 10 lbs and 14 ounces. His best fish this trip came in at 10 lbs 4 ounces, certainly nothing to sneeze at and a real trophy. This is the first time I’ve fished with Jeff; The man is a good stick and I fully expect him to shatter that mark on our very next trip. Dwight’s previous PB was a 9 lb 2 once Florida Trophy. “Mr Smallie” fished long and hard this week and during that awesome day in which Dwight weighed a 43 lb bag – he did thumb his new PB at 9 lbs 8 ounces – and that Hawg Tech handle was tested. My previous PB was a Michigan Bass that went 7lbs 1 ounce.
Well that didn’t last long on this particular trip. The very first morning I bested that twice with 7 lb 4 ounce and 7 lb 6 once bass.(My guides were not impressed though I was rather excited) I surpassed it again the next afternoon with a 9 lb 8 ounce Beast that was the single hardest fighting bass I could have ever imagined – just unreal. Now I was a very happy man at this point, but Lake Baccarac’s bounty blessed me one final time with a 10 lb 11 once Bug-eyed Monster that absolutely crushed a 1 ounce spinner bait in 22 feet of water. I’m still smiling over that bass and it might be a while before it subsides. As you can imagine, Dwight and I weren’t at the lodge long before we started talking about and making plans to return to Lake Baccarac and can you blame us? Accordingly, Jeff did give us the “I told you look” and plans to be right there as well. As I have mentioned, the fishing was a little off. After talking to the lodge owner Terry Holland and the guides, and as hard as it might be to comprehend, Lake Baccarac has more to offer. I’d really like to be there for that!

Comments: There are certainly some bass fishing highlights over the last seven days, including a couple of 8’s, a couple of 9’s and several 10 pound largemouth being caught. However, since the first of the month, two huge cold fronts have blown through Baccarac bringing extremely high winds that are very unusual for this time of year. This has made the bass fishing very tough. Even in the words of Manuel, “ No fishes want to bite.” As the lake's water temperature stabilizes the fishing will turn around.

Comments: 03/06/2013 Bass fishing on Baccarac remains sporadic so when it’s good, it’s good, but when it’s slow, it’s very slow. Mike Wilson’s group of eight anglers flying in private air had a fantastic trip, especially Larry Pinkston, who had a 48 lb. 7 oz stringer for his five biggest bass. Gary West’s group also flying in private air, had a couple of slow sessions due to a cold front and wind, but as a group, landed three largemouth bass over 10 pounds, several fish that were 9.14 or 9.15 that had already spawned out. Steve W fished hard yesterday and caught 26 bass, seven being 9 pounds or bigger.
03/08/2013 Steve Newell caught 28 bass with his 3 largest fish weighing 37 lbs 4 oz ,,, his fishing partner struggled with 13 black bass for the day.

Comments: 02/24/2013 Chester Graham’s group of ten reported good bass fishing, with some boats catching 35 largemouth a day. His group used a lot of spinner baits along with watermelon flukes. Bob Bennett landed a couple of double-digit bass. Baird Archbald and his group of eight had only an average fishing trip after some of the exceptional trips they have had in the past, but plenty of photos have surfaced depicting double digit fish being caught. The bigger bass are hanging on the points and are heavy into the spawn being very finicky. In the back of the coves, there are plenty of smaller bass if you want to fish for them. Bill Kenyon caught a nice 12.6 pound trophy out of the Archbald group. Watermelon flukes are currently the best bait.
02/17/2013 Ratl traps working up the river for the better numbers along with six fish over 10 pounds caught yesterday. Today along with 14 bass over 9 pounds...some boats are catching up to 50 fish a day and some boats just a few per day...Bill Hicks caught a nice 11.2 pounder on topwater. Fishing during the spawn is pretty tough!!!!

Comments: 02/08/2013 Ever since Gil and his group arrived the bite has been extremely slow..Russ Johnson is picking up topwater bass every morning...Trent Loukas and Judd Hightower have landed several nice trophy bass. The bite has been very slow the last 2 days. Manuel Salazar predicting the better bite starts in March this year which will be exactly when the better bite started last year.
02/09/2013 An overview of the last few days of bass fishing on Baccarac: The Trent Loukas / Andrus Brothers trip is over and they flew back to Amarillo in their jet. Although the bite was very challenging, all members of the group ended up catching largemouth over 10 lbs. and Trent stated that he caught countless fish over 9 pounds. A couple of guys in the group broke their personal best, with Chris Scharbauer catching a 10.2 pound bass. Every day, their big fish pot required at least a 10 lber to be in the money. The Gil Wright group, currently at the lodge, is having the same challenging conditions, with Gil currently not catching anything worth noting but Bob Schreiwer fishing with Sixto catching a 10.8, 9.15 and a 9.0 for his three biggest largemouth bass so far. The best producing guide over the last ten days has been El Tigre. He has been dialed to the spots that are holding the best numbers and the best quality of fish, with some of his clients catching 50 and 60 bass in a session.
02/10/2013 After two very slow days the big bass along with numbers came back today with guide Alanzo fishing Wes Moffat caught a 11.0. 12.4, 11.5 all on topwater baits. Sixto fishing with Jerry Ballard and Bob Schriver caught a 10.6 on topwater. Manuel Salazar fishing with Gil Wright and Denis caught a total of 38 fish with a 9.8, 8.6 and 8.3 on topwater bass lures.

02/05/2013 The action is slowly starting to pick up at Lake Baccarac and
March could be the month to be on the lake. Andrus Brothers flew their jet
to the lodge yesterday. Jud Hightower, on his first cast fishing, caught a
10.9 and Chris Andrus caught a 10.8, with a total of about 20 fish caught on
white spinner baits. Martin Tune, at the lodge four days ago, wrote in that
he exclusively threw a spinner bait the whole trip and caught more bass than
anybody else at the lodge and reported lots of 7, 8 and 9 lbers and a couple
of 10s. Manuel, scouting out fish, called in yesterday that he believes the
big fish will be moved up by the first part of March if not the latter part
of March.
02/06/2013 A couple of great things are happening today at the lodge: Gil
Wright and his group from Oklahoma are arriving via their private plane. Gil
frequents the lodge more than anybody else we have and never fails to
disappoint. He has caught countless largemouth bass over 10 pounds!

Comments: A review of the last few days of bass fishing on Lake Baccarac. A group of 16 bass anglers reported an overall great trip, with largemouth over 12 pounds being caught. They had success using Alabama rigs and Super Flukes rigged with weighted hooks, Scroungers tipped with watermelon Super Flukes and 7 inch Senkos. Recently arrived guests reporting better action than the previous bass anglers with some boats catching 30 to 40 bass a day and fish over 13 pounds. The fish are on the main river points and the best area of the lake is Poppa Chaw. Fishing deep is producing good results on Lake Baccarac.

Comments: The quality of bass we are starting to see is great even though the action is a bit sporadic. Bass fishing is going to shape up for March and April on Lake Baccarac and promises to be nothing short of spectacular. Fishing action a little slow yesterday for some anglers but the big largemouth are biting with a total of 22 fish over 9 pounds caught by the group of 14 anglers. Also six bass weighed in over 10 pounds, caught using Alabama rigs.

Comments: Jan. 19 - Fishing for some Baccarac bass anglers was excellent and for some so so. Jason Courtney had a great day on the water yesterday. His five biggest largemouth weighed in at 52 pounds caught on an Alabama rig. Greg Riggle caught bass over 10 lbs. and many fish 8 to 9 pounds. Other boats on the lake also landed trophy bass over 10 lbs. on weighted flukes and Scroungers. The water is starting to warm, creating some activity that was missing earlier in the week. Conditions are improving.
Jan. 20 - As good as the bass fishing on Lake Baccarac was Friday and Saturday, Sunday’s was poor. With the high pressure system and the warm weather moving in, Bill Benson and his boat only managed to catch one bass for the day. Manuel Salazar, guiding, managed three largemouth, and Narlin Salazar did not catch one all day long.

Comments: The end of last week, Larry Beard landed 30 fish a day, with the majority of bass being between 8 and 9 pounds. He also caught two 11 pound largemouth and one 12 pound trophy! Fishing partner Mike Hodge on Lake Baccarac - Mike had better bass fishing success than Larry using smaller line, along with smaller baits. Arriving via private plane, Jason Courtney and his group, along with Greg Riggle and his fishing partners, all reported slow action yesterday, January 16th. They did also report nothing but big bass being caught, with Jason not catching anything smaller than an eight pound bass and the biggest fish being 11 lbs. The temperature was cold on the 15th and 16th, with enough ice forming on our planes that we could not have an early departure the morning of the 16th. The forecast trends to warming and current lake temperature is in the mid sixties, but should warm rapidly.
January 15th - Guide Sixto Figuero landed at 14.14 pound Monster Bass!

Comments: We love days like today, anticipating the bass fishing will shut totally off from the rain, the cold weather and the low pressure system but John Stafford managed to catch an 11.10 pound trophy bass, with his fishing partner also catching one over 10 lbs. and they caught great numbers of fish using Scrounger jig heads, along with watermelon flukes with weighted hooks. An additional 10 lb. bass was caught by another member of John Stafford’s party, with only one boat reporting low numbers of bass caught. All other bass anglers had an exceptional day on Lake Baccarac.

Comments: The big bass continued to bite at Baccarac with the exception of a couple of days. We had three Largemouth Bass over 9 pounds caught with watermelon flukes by Mr. Yokoi from Japan. Mr. Hiroyuki caught a beautiful 11 lb. on a wild-eyed swimming shad in electric blue color. Mr. Kazuakai caught an 11.5 and an 11.0 on a Texas rigged six inch electric blue worm. Scrounger jig heads tipped with flukes produced good numbers of 5 and 6 lb. bass. The small fish are still not biting, which has been the case all year long.
The water temps have dropped tremendously and we are looking at a little bit more rain, but thus far, some of the best fishing we have seen for the year. Mitch Everhart, in his tenth trip to the lake, first time fishing out of our Lake Baccarac Lodge, reports the best fishing experience he has ever had. Rated Manuel Salazar as the best guide he has ever fished with in all of Mexico and caught four bass over 8 pounds, one over 9, one over 12 and had nothing but positive things to say about our operation.
Excellent trophy bass bite with the current Japanese Group at the Lodge....water temps and air temps very cold but the bite on the big fish remain very strong ....you have got to fish slow right now.

Some Largemouth Bass being caught on watermelon lizards. Just as we expected, the cold front that came through has knocked the topwater bite down. Two weeks ago, topwater bass fishing was exceptional. We found some fish using four and five inch swim baits in tilapia color. The Lucky Craft lure group are at the lodge now.

Gordon Soto had a an excellent day with 65 fish caught up to 9 pounds using heavy jigs. Narlin, while guiding, managed 4 fish over 10 pounds using senkos in deeper water. Comments: The last ten days on Lake Baccarac have been nothing short of phenomenal. I will try to recap some of the highlights. Rafael Soto and his friends from Culiacan, the first ½ day fishing, all broke their personal best with bass over 11 pounds on topwater.
Tino Gamueda from Lubbock, Texas caught a 12.6 largemouth on topwater. He described it as the best fishing he had ever had in his life and said Baccarac bass fishing is unbelievable. Rick Zugschwerdt, Shin and Eric Tanaka and Larry Albert, working on their 15th trip to the lodge, are on pace to catch 20 bass over the 10 pound mark with somewhere in the neighborhood of 40 fish weighing in at over 9lbs. And after all of their trips to Lake Baccarac, they have classified this one as the best ever. They said they have never caught so many giant, trophy bass!

Comments: 11/06/2012 Bass anglers not catching any fish over 9 pounds now for 3 days, very strange!!!! High pressure system maybe....numbers of largemouth caught are low compared to late last week when we had excellent numbers and size.
11/05/2012 Results varied the last 2 days on the lake, with no fish over 10 pounds caught on the 3rd or the 4th. Hot baits are zoom flukes in watermelon, watermelon red, watermelon candy, senko style 4 inch and 5 inch in black and blue, 1 oz jigs black and blue, 4 inch and 5 inch tilapia colored swim baits, chart/white 1 /2 oz spinnerbaits, topwater is fair with yellow magics and spooks. Temperature at Baccarac is still very warm for this time of year.

Comments:
11/2/2012 from Mark Glasscock: I’ve been lucky enough to fish all of the
great lakes in the US and Mexico, and I don’t know why it’s taken me so long
to fish Lake Baccarac. Before coming, I had read all of the reports and
don’t know that I really believed them 100%. I did see the photos on the
website – very impressive – but I still had a hard time believing. But upon
my arrival, seeing the photos on the walls of the tackle store, I absolutely
dropped my jaw. Now I understand that it’s just not FEW 9 to 18 lbs bass,
it’s thousands, with many different faces associated with those bass.
I had still not caught bass on the lake, but instantly felt like I became
part of this elite club. It wasn’t until late afternoon the first day that I
realized that this lake was a bass fisherman’s paradise, a structure
fisherman’s dream. I was told there was a great top water bite, senkos,
flukes, spinner baits, this and that, but my guide insisted that if I was
happy to fish deep and to fish structure, I would be well rewarded trying to
lure these bass with jigs and heavy-weighted plastics. We founds spots on
the lake that must have been holding thousands of monster bass. As I was
looking at the depth finder, I couldn’t believe my eyes.
Did I catch a trophy bass? Oh, yes. Did I catch five fish over the magical
ten lb. mark? Yes. Is it the best trip I have ever been on for big bass?
Without a doubt. But I’m more excited to understand what’s coming in the
future for this lake, if taken care of. These are the hardest fighting,
healthiest black bass I have ever seen. The structure alone is enough to
make you come back. The guide I had absolutely had radar on when a bass was
about to hit my lure. It’s not an easy lake to fish. With a good guide, it
increases your odds but you still have to be on top of your game at Lake
Baccarac. Oh by the way, the lodge was great; the food beyond excellent.
Manuel was the ultimate host and guide. I don’t see myself going to another
lake to fish for bass. I’ll be back as soon as I can, hopefully to bring
many, many more friends.

Comments: 10/17/2012 - Richard Burris at the lodge had great success top water fishing on Lake Baccarac. We have had a couple of days of rainy, cloudy weather, and they have reported catching bass over 10 lbs. using top water only. As a matter of fact, the only bait they have thrown for the last two days has been top water. Other boats have been alternating between top water and medium crank baits, with a good number of 2 to 4 lb. fish caught on crank baits.

Comments: 10/15/2012 With one bass over 14 pounds caught last week on topwater we are pretty happy. The bite is very slow but rewarding with bigger fish biting right now..mostly senkos and big flukes with some topwater.
10/12/2012 Wes Bullion’s group reported a great trip. Not very many bites but only big bass, with the largest largemouth being 12.14 caught by his father. Fishing around the stick ups, using Senkos and flukes had the most action. David Bolton group, arriving private plane, has come to the lodge for the second time recently and thought the fish were harder to catch this trip than last but did manage to record three bass over 10 lbs. and eight largemouth over 8 lbs. Some boats caught between 10 and 15 fish a day and some caught 25 to 35 bass a day. The water is extremely clear and we have probably gotten all of the rain we are going to get for this season. The lake is standing at 70 percent.
10/06/2012 the bite is improving with Wes Bullion group catching a 10.8, 8.10 and 7.8 black bass late yesterday afternoon on Black / blue senkos...fish are still suspending and the small crankbaits are producing a small fish bite.

Comments: 10/1/2012 Last week prior to the hurricane, the catching had been relatively dormant. Starting about two days prior to the hurricane passing, just as we would expect with these conditions, the Lake Baccarac bass were very active, with countless 4 and 5 lbers and the Jeff Kendle group caught largemouth over 11 pounds. Fishing remained very strong as the hurricane passed and has slowed considerably since the skies have turned clear again. The best bait is, without a doubt, Senkos, Sluggos and flukes.

Comments: 09/21/2012 Okay, all you Lake Baccarac bass anglers – the lake level stands at 65%. The rains have pretty much stopped. We are in much better shape than we were last year. Last year at this time, Baccarac was at 40% capacity. We have not had any fishermen on the lake in a couple of weeks, although Manuel has been on the water and said that bass were somewhat hard to find but will react to crank baits along with rattle traps. Our temperature has been very hot since the rains have stopped. We will be on the water every day next week so we look forward to having some consistent reports soon.

Comments: 09/09/2012 Fishing seems to be pretty challenging over the last week. The bass are very scattered and holding in 14 to 18 feet of water. Big crank baits are working but medium ones are working much better. We are having good success using Storm Wild Eyed 5 inch in mullet and tilapia color. We continue to have rain. Lake Baccarac is near 60 percent. This time last year at its most full level, it was only 40 percent. My guess is, that by October 1st, the lake will be over 70 percent full. We will not have any more reports until the first week in October.
