Silver King Lodge

Tarpon Fishing Costa Rica

Costa Rica is the home of Silver King Lodge. Our guests say, "It is the worlds best tarpon fishing lodge." Tarpon are fought on our NEW BOATS in open water or from Carolina Skiffs on the rivers. Silver King offers luxurious accommodations, gourmet meals, newest boats and the best guides on the east coast of Costa Rica.

Silver King Lodge Tarpon Fishing

Come and browse your way through tarpon fights, learn the best tackle and lures for both conventional and fly fishing. Experience giant snook fishing and what "the calba are coming" can mean to you. Fish the jungle tropical rain forest for tackle busting guapote and many other species that are locally known as pan fish. Perhaps you might find a sawfish while you take our tour.

Wahoo, sailfish, dolphin, marlin and tuna are located offshore from Silver King Lodge and are waiting to be caught from our NEW OFFSHORE BOAT.

Visit our lodge and imagine yourself relaxing in our Jacuzzi after a hard days fishing. Enjoy seeing the delectable offerings of our chef and perhaps we will have one of his recipes for you. For those guests that are not into fishing we have canoe trips that can get you deep into the jungle to see nature at its finest. Eco tourism is our specialty.

                       Snook Fishing

Snook like the one bottom right can be caught by anyone coming to Silver King Lodge. Our guides know all the best haunts of these monster snook. Those who choose to fish the river mouths have a chance of catching record size snook while those fishing the rivers in the traditional manner will tend to catch fish in greater numbers.

In the months of December and January the "calba" or fat snook migrate up the rivers to spawn. These snook can be caught in great numbers - 20 to ? - in just a few hours. They are not as big as normal snook ranging in weight from 6 to 10 pounds but fight just as hard. Tackle is medium light with 8 to 12 pound test line preferred. Some guests use ultra light spinning tackle but it should be remembered that tarpon lurk in the same waters with the snook and many giant snook turn out to be tarpon over 100 pounds.

Snook Fishing Costa Rica

Lures that work consistently are jigs with rubber bait tails in darker colors if the water is stained and light colors in clear water. Many are caught on surface lures as well as noisy diving plugs such as rattle traps.
